Entry to the school for VCA Secondary School Dance and Music students is by competitive audition, which is held in August each year. Positions are open to Year 7 to 12 students throughout Victoria, Australia and the International community.

International students should read the detailed section designed for them.

There are 200 places funded for suitable Australian students, International student numbers are counted above this and do not come from local places.

While VCASS is a Victorian Government School all Australian residents are eligible to audition.

During the audition a student's potential is taken into account as well as his or her talent. Audition information is included below.

Australian Ballet School students are selected by national auditions which occur in the middle of the year. Contact the Australian Ballet School for audition information.

Victorian Institute of Gymnasts, Diving Victoria, Australian National Academy of Music and Tennis Australia students are selected from within their national training programs. Contact them for further information.

Students in grade six should not put VCASS as one of their school choices when completing the regional school preference forms given to you by your primary school. Secure your local school, any offer from us immediately gives you preference for our school and cancels this preference order form.

Our school is hard to get into as places are limited and we cannot take all the students we want to. For this reason we must stress that other educational options should be explored as well. Most years we have 450+ suitable students audition and we make around 50 offers.

Audition application forms

Application forms attached to this section clearly outline the requirements for audition in dance or music for Victorian students.

Application forms for interstate or overseas students are via a video audition if they cannot attend the formal audition process. The process is clearly outlined in the video application form, which is attached. The audition application forms are available after the first day of term 2 each year. We do however recommend that interstate students attend for the audition.
